When people visit Pagosa Country either in person or online to see if it's a place they'd like to relocate, part of what they are interested in knowing is what amenities are available that they've grown accustomed to "back home."

The majority of people who have moved here in the past decade or so came with the full knowledge that there will be trade-offs in many aspects. We have accepted (and in many cases have welcomed) the fact that we have to travel to Durango or down to Farmington or Santa Fe, New Mexico, and even up to Denver to enjoy the material and culture offerings our small town can't provide.

On the flip side, we've traded in the Big City lifestyle for gains in areas those locations can never provide: spectacular natural surroundings, clean air, no dress code or pretentiousness, and friendly neighbors and businesses that treat us like human beings. And while Pagosa Country will continue to grow and fill varying needs along the way, it's still fun to plan those "Get Out of Dodge!" days and weekends.

Although we don't have the big box super-centers, a plethora of grocery stores or a shopping mall, expansion and growth in recent years has provided us with many goods and services that weren't available here even a couple of years ago.
