The Levine’s Fairway Land Trust received the award for demonstrating an exemplary commitment to a forest stewardship land ethic; the CSFS recognizes only one group statewide each year. A nice group was on hand for the ceremony. |

Ranch Manager, Ken Levine. |
"I’ve always considered our family to be stewards of this special land, and we have always focused on improving and maintaining the unique environment with which we have been blessed," said Levine, who co-owns the ranch with wife Elaine, son and ranch manager Ken, and three of Ken’s siblings.
Only one Colorado Outstanding Forest Steward is selected annually by the Colorado Forest Stewardship Coordinating Committee to recognize individuals or groups who demonstrate an exemplary commitment to a forest stewardship land ethic.
Two old friends, Mayor Ross Aragon and Bill Dawson have long worked for Pagosa Springs and appriciate the Levines efforts. |
A summary of ranch accomplishments includes forest thinning on 152 acres to improve forest health; a half-mile of stream restoration; improved infrastructure for irrigation and access; and an active weed control program.
Located just south of Pagosa’s hot springs and adjacent to open space, the Reservoir River Ranch boasts a balanced blend of actively managed forestland, rangeland and pastureland. The property is also managed for wildlife habitat, watershed protection and recreational values.

CSFS Director and State Forester Jeff Jahnke presented the award. Jeff stated, " This is land ethics from the heart." |
"The Levine family has done an exceptional job of managing multiple resources on their land in an environmentally sound way," said Jahnke.
THE LEVINE FAMILY HAVE KINDLY ALLOWED USE OF THEIR PROPERTY FOR TRAIL RACES. BELOW ARE SCENES FROM BOTH WINTER AND SUMMER EVENTS.

Pagosa was all about foot racing for the Chile Cha Cha - Gecko Trail Marathon and a high school cross country meet. Starting and finishing in Town Park, the longer marathon races went up the hill and into the forest on Reservoir Hill, to the right, and for miles south. |

With the cooperation of the Levine family this great new trail race course has been developed for the Mountain Chili Cha Cha Race. It has excellent terrain, spectacular mountain views and good spectator viewing from the paved road. |

Reservoir Hill from the south. Approximate lay out of the racecourse in red. Start / Finish Line is above the X in Town Park. Vistas from the course include, to the north, the mountains of the Weminuche Wilderness and to the east, Square Top Mountain and the Continental Divide range of the South San Juan Wilderness. |

The Mountain Chile Cha Cha Race course has awesome trails and vistas every step of the way. In the distance is Square Top Mountain and the ridge of the Continental Divide east of Pagosa. |

50% of the course is up and 50% is down but by near the end it may seem all up! |
And, as they come over the hill it's... Fido leading the way!!! |
Much of the course is open but there are sections under the canopy of the forest. |

The morning Sun illuminated the vista, a great morning for a run. |
Meanwhile, back in Town Park volunteers practiced for the end of the races. Some sprinted a few steps to a rope finish line while others did the official requrements of documenting the finish. |

Events could not happen without volunteers, bless the volunteers! |

Ken Levine, in black finishes the race. The Levine family own the property south of Reservoir Hill where much of the course is located. Thanks to the Levines. |
