Hi - A few friends and I are planning a trip to Pagosa Springs this summer - We want to hike, and camp in the wilderness, not a campground - and we want to find hot spring pools that aren't tourized and basically in the wild too, - does this exist there?

This article overstates the use of this hot spring. If you are there at the peak of the summer season there may be others around, particularly on busy weekends but, during slower times you may spend a day or more there without seeing another person. It is 100% natural and in the wilderness. Don't plan a trip too early in the spring as there is a LOT of snow there right now and later in the spring the pools will be covered with snow run-off, mid summer and later is best. The linked article may not be accurate as to the pool's discription as this varies yearly. First users of each year repair the damage done by snow run-off by moving bolders to make the pools so, the number, size and shape vary. This spring is noted on the Forest Service Map and has spectacular hiking / mountain climbing all around. Surf the net for Rainbow Hot Spring and find several maps showing the location. Editor
