On the trail. Ski skaters enjoy the wide main trail at West Fork. In places it is wide enough for passing and playing Olympics. People into the competition often come back bloodied from wildly swinging poles. Not all Nordic is calm and peaceful!

Trailblazers Snowmobile Trail Grooming

This huge machine leaves an ice interstate through the forest. Great for snowmobiles and Nordic skiers alike.

John Taylor, president of the The Trailblazers Snowmobile Club reports Four Mile Trail and Plumtaw Trail has been groomed along with a new network of trails in the area south of Williams Lake. For the new network go north on Piedra Road and turn at sign to Sportsman's Campground. There is space to park. The road/trails are groomed to Hunter's Camp, Piedra Falls, Palisade and others. This is an area that has not been groomed for many years and is recommened highly for both snowmobilers and cross country skiers.

Oh Yes You Can!

Perfect Pagosa. The Pagosa Springs area is both high elevation and southerly. Looking south the next mountain range as great as the San Juan is the Andies in the Southern Hemisphere! High elevation and moist southwestern winds produce the "Most Snow in Colorado" while the warm southern Sun makes for some very mild winter days. Lower elevation areas such as this pine and scrub oak lined trail at about 7,000' are warmest. People are often seen recreating in the snow with less than full winter survival gear. Photo illustration by Norm Vance.

West Fork Ski Track

On the Trail

Three friends from Texas and Georgia have a lovely time on a snowy day.

Feb. 17th, 2007

The West Fork Trail was groomed with some new snow after a week of warm weather and slow melting. Two lanes of ski track are set on the main trail. Other loops and the trail beyond the bridge are skied. There are several skier tracked trails through the woods. The loop in the valley floor is not groomed at this time

Much of the main trail is wide and flat for friendly side by side classic skiing or ski skating. The side loops are in good shape with single lanes. All users should try not to damage the set tracks please. 

This picnic table just inside in the main loop on the right is being cleared of snow and ice for the pleasure of skiers.

 

One the trail, the Grace and Bowles families. From children to adults there were smiles all around.

The West Fork is groomed for side by side skiing to the delight of these folks.

They came along at just the right time to help remove the fallen tree from the trail, thanks again guys.

 

Talk about bringing them up right! Jean Garcia and Stephanie Jones haul a most precious load, their children.

Jazzell Jones and Andre Jones on the right and a very cute and very asleep, Trey Garcia, on the left. You always meet the nicest people and have great experiences on the trail. This one was very heart warming.

  

Lobo Trail - Wolf Creek Summit, Snow Playground

The summit of Wolf Creek Pass is once again the area's favorite for winter recreation. Snowmobilers whiz along on the south side of the highway and sledders, Nordic skiers, snowboarders and the general public play in the snow on the north side. The Lobo trail, although not a groomed trail, is fairly smooth and allows access to the summit of a Continental Divide mountain. Bring extra film, memory cards and breath!

Can you summit Lobo? This couple did and share a lunch and one of the most spectacular views around.

 

Dec. 23... The sledding hill is in early evolution, in a couple of days it should be in good shape.

The sled hill atop Wolf Creek is now well packed and used. Shrieks of joy fill the air.

Great News for Nordic Skiers

Donations have come in that will pay for the insurance to do cross country ski trails this year. The Chamber donated the bulk of the policy cost and seperate donations from The Summit and Ski and Bow Rack put us over the top. Now we need a bit of help with gas and oil. Thanks to all.
